The Uber Nerd Barometer
I have a friend who is a linguistics major. The other day, he was telling us about what he is learning in historical linguistics, and I said, "Oh my gosh, that sounds so cool." Then I shook my head in shame. I have decided that the true test to determine whether or not you are an uber nerd could very well have to do with whether you think "historical linguistics" sounds "cool."
Anyway, for those of you who aren't asleep yet, the interesting factoid my friend was sharing was this: The words "better" and "best" come from the word "booty," and "worse" and "worst" come from "war." Isn't that interesting???

If by "appropriate" you mean "accurate," then possibly. But if you mean "a socially acceptable to say," then no.
